A warm welcome to the Ashdown Forest Riding Association (AFRA).


The Ashdown Forest has over 81 miles of safe riding and with over 6,500 acres, (10 square miles) for you to roam at your leisure. Riding is by permit only which you can obtain from the Ashdown Forest Centre and AFRA members receive a discount on the cost of an annual permit.

AFRA Objectives

1. To assist in conserving the Forest in its natural state for the benefit of walkers and riders alike.

2. To work in liaison with the Conservators to improve riding conditions.

3. To ensure that Ashdown Forest is kept available for use by horse riders with the minimum of restrictions.

AFRA Events

AFRA run several events through out the year including quiz nights and the September pleasure ride over 12 miles of the forest is always a firm favourite.

AFRA Pleasure Ride, 20th September 2015

The Annual Ride will start and finish at Blackhill car park, Ashdown Forest TN6 1XE. There will be two course lengths over forest heathland and woodland, almost entirely off road. The shorter course will be approximately 10 miles in length and the longer course will the longer course which will take riders to the Northern reaches of the forest, will be approximately 12 miles long.
Refreshments will be available by prepaid voucher, part way round the course
