A warm welcome to the Ashdown Forest Riding Association (AFRA).


The Ashdown Forest has over 81 miles of safe riding and with over 6,500 acres, (10 square miles) for you to roam at your leisure. Riding is by permit only which you can obtain from the Ashdown Forest Centre and AFRA members receive a discount on the cost of an annual permit.

AFRA Objectives

1. To assist in conserving the Forest in its natural state for the benefit of walkers and riders alike.

2. To work in liaison with the Conservators to improve riding conditions.

3. To ensure that Ashdown Forest is kept available for use by horse riders with the minimum of restrictions.

AFRA Events

AFRA run several events through out the year including quiz nights and the September pleasure ride over 12 miles of the forest is always a firm favourite.

The AFRA Pleasure Ride

18th September 2016

Venue - Blackhill Car Park, Black Hill Road, Crowborough, TN6 1XE. Road B2188.

The ride is almost entirely off-road over heathland and woodland with far reaching views and beautiful scenery. There are no jumps. There is some uneven terrain. The Forest Paths will be clearly marked and road crossings will be marshalled.

There is a choice of two course lengths. The shorter course at approximately 10 miles and the longer, which takes riders to the northern reaches of the Forest, approximately 12 miles. Riders will leave between 9.30 a.m. and 12 a.m., individually or in groups, and will start as near to their requested time as possible. Rosettes will be issued to all entrants on completion of event.

Refreshments will be available, if required, part way round the course.
